St. Paul's Bible Verse of the Week
He humbled you by letting you hunger, then by feeding you with manna... in order to make you understand that one does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

NRSV: Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters.


CEB: Whatever you do, do it from the heart for the Lord and not for people.


The NRSV is the New Revised Standard Version, which is the academic standard for biblical translation. The Common English Bible is a more accessible translation. Both are approved for use during worship in the Episcopal Church.

NRSV: For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to the one who possesses it.


CEB: Wisdom’s protection is like the protection of money; the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the lives of its possessors.

Book of Common Prayer: But you, O Lord, are a shield about me; you are my glory, the one who lifts up my head.


CEB: But you, Lord, are my shield! You are my glory! You are the one who restores me.
